Heavy rains damaged four houses and a cowshed in Udupi district on Sunday. Lightning struck another house in Karkala, damaging a wall.
According to the Udupi Taluk Office, two houses and a cowshed were damaged due to the rains. The house of Bagi Poojarti was damaged at Manur-Padukere village and the loss was estimated at Rs. 5,000. A house belonging to Girija Poojarti was damaged in the same village and the loss was estimated at Rs. 3,000.
The house of Kalu H. was damaged at Shiriyar village and the loss was estimated at Rs. 3,000. The compound wall of the Sanskrit College in Udupi was damaged and the loss was estimated at Rs. 5,000. A cowshed belonging to Babanna Poojary was damaged at Kotathattu village and the loss was estimated at Rs. 2,000.
According to the Kundapur Taluk Office, a house belonging to Periya Poojary was damaged at Thekkatte village and the loss was estimated at Rs. 5,000.
According to the Karkala Taluk Office, a house belonging to Boga Mulya was damaged when it was struck by lightning. The lightning created a five feet high and 10 feet wide hole in the wall. The loss was estimated at Rs. 5,000. According to the Control Room at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office here, there was water logging at the bus stand at Sasthan.
Udupi city received a rainfall of 93.4 mm in the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Sunday. Kundapur and Karkala towns received a rainfall of 121.6 mm and 87.6 mm, respectively.
