Re-allocation of portfolios this week

The re-allocation of portfolios of Ministers, which is getting delayed, is likely to be effected by Saturday.

According to sources in the Bharatiya Janata Party, no decision has been taken on the methods of re-allocation of portfolios between the two rival camps and on whether to take away the additional portfolios being held by the two Deputy Chief Ministers.

“The decision on all these issues will be taken and implemented by Saturday,” sources said.

It may be noted that the party had allowed the Ministers who had continued from D.V. Sadananda Gowda government to keep their plum portfolios as the legislature session was then set to start within a few days.

The newly appointed ministers were given only those portfolios, which were with Mr. Gowda. The party had assured them of bringing about a balance between the new and old ministers by undertaking a re-allocation of all the portfolios after the legislature session.

Though the party’s core committee comprising top leaders met recently, it could not come to a consensus on the ways and means of re-allocation of portfolios.

The party leaders are likely to have one more round of consultations to sort out the issue.

Council nominations

Meanwhile, the party is learnt to have shortlisted names of five persons for nominations to three seats of the Legislative Council.

The five who are being considered are Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh leader Sadashiva, actors Tara and Mukhyamanthri Chandru, K.B. Shanappa and the former MLA M. D. Laxminarayana.

The party is expected choose three persons from this list within two days.

Taking serious exception to Excise Minister M.P. Renukacharya repeatedly hitting out at the former Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, the BJP is learnt to have decided to warn him.

Mr. Renukacharya had accused the former Chief Minsiter of failure to convene meetings of party legislators to discuss problems related to their constituencies. He also alleged that the relationships had soured then.
