The CPI(M) has urged the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research to stop collecting fee for treatments. V. Perumal, secretary of the Puducherry unit of the party, told reporters on Tuesday that JIPMER is the reliable hospital in Puducherry, Cuddalore and Villupuram. The poor were dependent on it for quality treatment. Since inception, the hospital has been giving free treatment to patients. However, the administration had suddenly started collecting fees.
