Imran Farhat has memories that will never die. He remembers scampering a single off L. Balaji and then breaking down.
He had realised a childhood dream of scoring a century against India in a Test. It was the Lahore Test in that immortal series of 2004.
“I was crying. When I was on 99, my partner, the great Inzamam bhai (Inzamam-ul-Haq) tried to calm me down. I got a century but was soon dismissed because I still had tears in my eyes,” Farhat recalled here on Monday.
It was a match-winning hundred. Farhat, a left-handed top-order batsman, is delighted that Pakistan will be visiting India in December this year for three ODIs and two twenty20s games.
“There is nothing like India-Pakistan cricket. It is something else,” says Farhat.
The 30-year-old Farhat is now parading his skills — he is a flamboyant shot-maker — for Uthura Rudras in Mahindra Sri Lankan Premier League. The franchise is owned by an Indian firm, Rudra Buildwell.
He goes back to India-Pakistan cricket and says, “Despite the politics in both countries, both India and Pakistan should play matches with each another. The expectations are high, so are the pressures. The Pakistanis love the Indian cricket team and it is the same when we come to India.”
