The State government has constituted a Cabinet subcommittee to study the rehabilitation of unwed mothers in Wayanad.

The committee, comprising Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, A.P. Anil Kumar, and P.K. Jayalakshmi, will assess the progress of the steps taken for the rehabilitation process. The panel will discuss the issue with MLAs and other elected representatives and submit its report in a month.

The decision to constitute the subcommittee was taken at a meeting of the vigilance and monitoring committee set up to prevent atrocities against the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy presided over the meeting.

The meeting sanctioned an additional Rs.1 lakh for the family of Soumya who was killed after being pushed out of a train at Thrissur. It resolved to increase the number of posts at the forensic laboratories at Kannur and Thrissur to avoid the delay in chemical analysis of evidence samples relating to atrocities against SC/ST persons.

The meeting decided to investigate reports of migrant workers from Wayanad being exploited in Karnataka.

Legislators K. Ajith, I.C. Balakrishnan, V.P. Sajeendran, K.V. Vijayadas, and senior officials participated in the meeting.
