Rs.1.20 crore sales target fixed for Khadi

Temporary sales depots to be set up at Corporation Commissioner’s office



Gandhian philosophy still has its relevance and Khadi goods stand testimony to this fact, said Jayashree Muralidharan, District Collector.


Inaugurating the ‘Deepavali’ sales at the Khadi craft in Tiruchi, the Collector referred to the unique nature of struggle through which Gandhiji got freedom for our country. Khadi goods aimed at improving the rural economy.


She also underlined the role of media in sensitising the masses to the relevance of Gandhian philosophy and principles. R. Sampathkumar, Regional Deputy Director (in-charge), said that last year’s sales achievement for Tiruchi comprising the revenue districts of Tiruchi, Ariyalur, and Perambalur was Rs.56.36 lakhs. This year, the target for these districts has been fixed at Rs.1.50 crore including Rs.1.20 crore for Tiruchi, Rs.15 lakh each for Ariyalur and Perambalur districts. He said the government employees were eligible for credit facility.


The sales target for Pudukottai district was Rs.80 lakh, he added. Mr. Sampathkumar said that temporary khadi sales depots would be shortly set up the offices of the Corporation Commissioner and the panchayat union offices in Vaiyampatti, Manikandam, Tiruverambur, Andhanallur and Mannachannallur.
