Over the past few days, the road signs in A. Narayanapura ward, which bore the name of the former councillor S.S. Prasad and local MLA Nandish Reddy, have been painted over. The bypoll to the ward is being held on Sunday.

According to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials here on Friday, this was being done following specific instructions from the jurisdictional Deputy Commissioner after a public complaint was registered.

Complaint lodged

“A resident, who lodged the complaint, alleged that the road signs were a violation of the model code of conduct. After this, we were instructed to paint over the names of the former councillor and legislator.”

The official added the BBMP had also removed all publicity material in the ward, including banners, buntings, cut-outs and flexes.

The bypoll will be held in 31 booths and three auxiliary booths. Of these, five are hyper-sensitive and 14 are sensitive.
