British couple who were abducted by nine persons on May 29 were rescued by Chennai police on Sunday (June 2) night .
The couple, Thavaraja of Sri Lankan origin and Salaja — from the United Kingdom — were abducted when they came to Chennai for a nine-day temple tour from Colombo. "We had booked a hotel and someone was holding a placard with my name and hotel name," Thavaraja said.
The abductors demanded a ransom of 500,000 pounds. The Chennai police team rescued the couple from Mandharakuppam near Puducherry on Sunday. Among the abductors are Sri Lankan refugees and Indian nationals.
