The city police are leaving no stone unturned to ensure elaborate security for the Indo-Pakistan ODI in Chennai on December 30.
The Pakistani team will be accompanied by a large delegation of 550 people including 50 VIPs.
On Tuesday afternoon, a four-member Pakistani delegation led by Nadeem Sarwar, head of media management, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), inspected M.A. Chidambaram stadium where the first one-day international (ODI) match will be played. Earlier, the members visited the Bangalore stadium.
Accompanied by BCCI and TNCA officials, the team including Usman Wahla, manager, PCB international operations, Ehsan Sadiq, director of security, and Sohail Khan, Punjab province police, visited the stands at MAC and interacted with ground staff.
The team later met city police commissioner S. George in his office to discuss security measures that will be in place at the venue and in the team hotel, during the match.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting at the commissionerate, Nadeem Sarwar said the delegation was satisfied with the preparations. “I believe the agencies here including the city police will make necessary security arrangements for our players and officials,” he said.
The city police said a detailed security plan would be worked out over the next few days. “Fifty VIPs and 500 civilians from Pakistan will attend the match here. We will collect details of the VIPs and provide security accordingly,” said a senior officer.
Coastal security and air cover will be arranged in case of any threat, the officer said.
The Pakistani delegation will head to Ahmedabad to inspect the venue where the second T20 tie will be held on December 27. The India-Pakistan series comprising three one-day matches and two T20s will commence in Bangalore on December 25, 2012, and conclude in Delhi on January 6, 2013.
