All India Postal Circle Kabaddi Tournament begins

Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences vice-chancellor I.V. Rao on Monday emphasised the importance of India maintaining its supremacy in kabaddi and advised the administrators to keep pace with the changes taking place in the game to prolong its dominance.

Speaking at the inaugural of the 26 All India Postal Circle Kabaddi Tournament at Rail Stadium here on Tuesday, Mr. Rao said that India stayed a super power in hockey for many decades and the world was in awe of the skills of players like Dhyan Chand. “But everything changed with the introduction of astro turf. India failed to master the art of playing on the synthetic surface and surrendered its supremacy to European countries. It is yet to regain its numero uno slot,” he added.

Mr. Rao appreciated the Postal Department for allotting sports events to all 14 circles on rotation and felt such meets would improve the camaraderie and team spirit among the employees.

State game

Chief Post Master General Karuna Pillai said that kabaddi was the state game of Andhra Pradesh and Vijayawada was chosen as venue as many national and international kabaddi players were produced from the commercial capital of AP. Mr. Joshi, Post Master General, Vijayawada Region, asked players to play the game with sportsman’s spirit.
