Arrangements in place for MLC polls





Arrangements have been made for election to MLC (Teachers’ Constituency) which is scheduled on February 21. The polling will be conducted from 8am to 4pm on that day at 36 polling stations --- 21 in Vizianagaram and 15 in Parvathipuram revenue divisions. The number of teachers registered as voters was 3,723. Of them, 2692 are men and 1021 women. Nine polling stations have more than 100 voters and 27 got less than 100 voters. In all 36 presiding officers and an equal number of assistant presiding officers, 45 other polling personnel, 14 route officers, 11 zonal officers, 36 micro observers, and a number of personnel (reserved) have been appointed for the polling. These personnel would collect men and material at distribution centres in both the revenue divisions on Wednesday. V.N. Vishnu, polling observer, has appealed to all to cooperate for peaceful conduct of elections.


Superintendent of Police Karthikeya said three DSPs, 11 inspectors, 36 Sis, 70 ASI/head constables and 230 constables would be deployed at the 36 polling stations. There are seven candidates in fray from the three North Andhra coastal districts for the post. The sitting MLC Gade Srinivasulu Naidu is once again contesting as PRTU candidate. The other candidates are: Gulipalli Simhadrappadu (APTF), Yajjipurapu Satyam (APTF 1936), Boddepalli Mohan Rao (Progressive Democratic Front), Nakka Damodara Rao (Praja Tantra Medhavula Vedika), Kondapalli Rama Rao (School Assistants Association), and K.R. Diwakar Rai (Independent). All the candidates with the active support of their respective unions campaigned vigorously. The campaign came to a close on Tuesday evening.
