75 cases of water theft found





The non-revenue water management unit and the anti-theft squad of the Kerala Water Authority, Kochi circle, have found 75 cases of large-scale misuse of drinking water in the city and, nearby municipalities and panchayats. The squad, inspecting various non-revenue connections between February 15 and April 15, found faulty water meters of non-domestic and domestic users, motor pump sets connected to KWA pipelines and hosepipes connected to public taps. The lines were disconnected in some cases while heavy fine charged in others.


The anti-theft squad has collected Rs. 18.58 lakh as fine from July 2012 onwards.


The inspections would continue in the coming days, said a statement issued by the Assistant Executive Engineer heading the anti-theft unit
