Railway reservation centre for Athikulam

10th PRS to be opened in post offices



A new railway passenger reservation system (PRS) was inaugurated at the Reserve Line sub-post office at Athikulam here on Wednesday.


M.K. Alagiri, Madurai MP, inaugurated it in the presence of A.K. Rastogi, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), and J. Charukesi, Postmaster General, Southern Region. Mr. Alagiri handed over the first ticket to a passenger.


The DRM said that it was the 10th PRS to be opened in post offices in the Madurai division. Passengers could get all services, including Tatkal booking and getting refund on cancellation, at the new facility. PRS centres had been functioning at the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court and V.O. Chidambaram College in Tuticorin.


The Railways was willing to start reservation centres at reputed organisations, he added.


The Postmaster General said that she would decide on the timings of operation of the PRS in consultation with the Railway officials. While the working hours for post offices start at 10 a.m., the PRS at Kodaikanal post office starts functioning at 8.30 a.m., she said.


Additional Divisional Railway Manager V. Ajithkumar and Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Govindappa Raj were present.
