Indians have a practice session

After a day’s rest following the match against Afghanistan, India revived its practice sessions at the historic P. Sara Oval here on Friday.

The entire group of players and support staff were present with the exception of Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina. The indisposed duo — Yuvraj has a sore throat and Raina is suffering a minor stomach ailment — stayed back in the hotel while the rest limbered up with a fielding session. The accent was on pick-up and throws before M.S. Dhoni’s men reverted to regular nets.

There was a minor scare when Virender Sehwag took a blow on his right hand while fending a bouncer from Sachin Peres, a local bowler.

The opener rested a bit, played a few throw-downs and walked away but the news from the camp is that there is no cause for alarm.

Meanwhile, Irfan Pathan and Virat Kohli unleashed lofted shots that clattered on the pavilion’s roofs and bounced past a few scribes, who were slouched over their laptops.

The most emphatic shot however was struck by Manoj Tiwary and the big hit smashed the glass on the upper tier.

India’s next game is against England at the R. Premadasa Stadium here on Sunday night.
