Maoists kill two in Odisha




An elected tribal panchayat ward member was killed by Maoists at Rajpur village in the Nabarangpur district of Odisha on Thursday.


The Deputy Inspector General of Police, south-west range, S. Debadatta Singh, confirmed the killing of Rohidas Gond. Details were awaited as the village was in a remote area close to the Chhattisgarh border. The killing took place around 1 p.m, he said.


According to reports reaching here, a group of extremists went to the house of the Khuduku panchayat ward member and forced him to accompany them. They reportedly shot him dead on the outskirts of the village.


In a note left at the scene, the Naxalites branded him a police informer. It is suspected that the Mainpur division of adjoining Chhattisgarh carried out the killing.


Hacked to death

Maoists hacked to death a trader at at Nangalbaoard in Sinapali area late on Wednesday night, suspecting him to be a police informer.


According to the police, a group of about 25 extremists, including women, barged into the house of Satar Khan and attacked him with sharp weapons and rifle bayonet.


The Naxalaites then raised slogans against the police and security forces and disappeared into the forest.


A note left by the Maoists stated that Satar Khan was passing on information about naxal activities to the police.


Combing operation and patrolling by the security personnel had been intensified in the area.
