R. Ramkumar defeated wild card David Vega Hernandez of Spain 6-2, 0-6, 7-5 in the first round of the $15,000+H ITF men’s Futures tennis tournament in Palma del Rio, Spain, on Tuesday.
National champion Ramkumar, who had reached the final of a similar tournament in Martos a fortnight ago, will meet sixth-seeded Sergio Gutierrez-Ferrol of Spain in the pre-quarterfinals.
In doubles, however, Ramkumar and Ashwin Vijayaragavan lost 6-4, 6-2 to Roberto Ortega-Olmedo and Ricado Villacorta-Alonso of Spain in the pre-quarterfinals.
Meanwhile in the $15,000+H tournament in Breda, the Netherlands, Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan lost 6-2, 6-3 to local player Thomas Schoorel in the first round.
