Anshu Jamshenpa of Arunachal Pradesh, who holds the record of being the only mother in the world to have scaled the Mount Everest twice in 10 days, scaled the peak again on Saturday for the third time.

Among the six were Tarun Saikia of Assam, David Zohmangaiha of Mizoram and Ms. Wangsuk Myrthong of Meghalaya, who became the first mountaineers from their States to have successfully scaled the Mount Everest.
Other members of the team were Nameirakpam Chingkheinganba of Manipur and Kazi Sherpa of Sikkim. Congratulating Mr. Saikia for the achievement, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi announced a financial assistance of Rs. 20 lakh to him for his achievement.
Red letter day
“It is a red letter day for the Indian mountaineering fraternity as six climbers from the north-east India stood briefly on the summit of Mt. Everest and raised the Indian tricolour at 5.50 a.m. [Nepal standard time]. They started their summit push from South Col at 8 p.m. last night [Friday] and climbed whole night to reach the rooftop of the world early on Saturday,” said Tsering Wange, president of the Arunachal Mountaineering and Adventure Sports Association (AMSA), and husband of Ms. Jamshenpa.
