Chief Minister seeks report on Amma Hastham

Stocks of nine essential commodities under ‘Amma Hastham’ scheme to last for one month should be kept with dealers in advance, said Chief Minister N.Kiran Kumar Reddy.

The first of its kind scheme to provide nine essential commodities on subsidy for the benefit of 2.25 crore white cardholders should be implemented without any compromise in quality and quantity, he said.

Mr. Reddy who reviewed the implementation of ‘Amma Hastham’ with Civil Supplies Minister D. Sridhar Babu, Chief Secretary and other officials asked them to ensure that Joint Collectors should directly supervise the scheme and send their reports to the government every month.

He asked the officials to explore procurement of 10,750 tonnes of sugar required for the scheme every month directly from cooperative sugar factories.

It would also help farmers get remunerative price for sugarcane. Similarly Indira Kranthi Patham Self Help Groups could be involved in the cleaning, packing and distribution of commodities like tamarind, turmeric and chilli powder.

Quality checks

On the lines of third party verification of stock and distribution entrusted to Tata Consultancy, similar arrangement should be in place for quality checks at the selected packing and distribution centres, Mr. Reddy told the officials.
