Team for Asian GP series named





Some of the leading Indian athletes, including six women, will compete in the Asian Grand Prix series in Thailand and Sri Lanka over the next 10 days.


The first two meets will be held in Bangkok on May 4 and 8, and the third will be in Colombo on May 12.


With some of the athletes like quarter-miler M.R. Poovamma and triple jumper Arpinder Singh getting close to the qualifying standards for the World championships during the Federation Cup at Patiala recently, the Asian meets are expected to provide them the platform to reach the target.


The team: Men: Shameer Mon (100m relay), Arokia Rajiv (400m), Nitendra Singh Rawat, Keta Ram (3000m, 5000m), Siddhant Thingalaya (110m hurdles, relay), Arpinder Singh, Renjith Maheswary (triple jump), Nikhil Chittarasu, Jithin Thomas (high jump), Om Prakash Singh, Jasdeep Singh Dhillon (shot put), Davinder Singh, Vipin Kasana (javelin), Mohan Vijay Kumar, Ritesh Anand, T. Balamurugan (relay).


Women: M.R. Poovamma, Anju Mariam Jose (400m), Sahana Kumari (high jump), Krishna Poonia, Navjeet Kaur Dhillon (discus), Mukesh Kumari (javelin).


Coaches: Anatoli Varda, Evgeniy Shvilli, Ievgen Nikitin, Virendar Singh Poonia, C.T. Durai; Manager: Sunny Joshua.
